Memoirs of Gurdjieff, A.L. Staveley, 1st Edition

Staveley gives us a vivid portrayal of Gurdjieff and at the same time conveys to the reader a genuine sense of the way Gurdjieff taught. In these vignettes the voice of Gurdjieff is heard again and his teaching transmitted.

A.L. Staveley was a pupil of Jane Heap in London from 1939-1959. Jane Heap, who had herself been a pupil of A.R. Orage in New York, was later sent by Gurdjieff to teach his ideas in London. Her groups were not large but she worked intensively with them and always in preparation for the day when she could take them to Gurdjieff him self. These meetings, which took place between the end of the Second World War and the death of Gurdjieff in 1949, are the episodes and substance of this book.
