Patterns of Prophecy by Alan Vaughan
From earliest times, men and women have tried to see into the future. Until the age of rationalism, quite sophisticated societies took their seers seriously. Even today, more mystically-inclined cultures accept that certain people are gifted with "second-sight". Today, perhaps in response to the uncertainties of contemporary life, there is a growth in both scientific and popular interest in prophecy, and otherwise quite normal people are appearing to have this gift.
One of the founders of modern psychology, C. G. Jung, was himself a prototype parapsychologist. Vaughan synthesizes his concepts of synchronicity and coincidence, archetypal roles and prophetic dreams, with the amazing contemporary research in psi fields and parapsychology. to formulate a plausible explanation for the phenomenon of prophecy. He believes that each individual has an inner or psychic 'blueprint' much like the physical pattern of RNA-DNA, with which prophets have the ability to tune in to some degree.
Vaughan has himself received wide attention for his predictions of the Apollo missions, the Robert Kennedy assassination and the Watergate Scandals. He brings to this objective study a lively curiosity about the psychological mechanisms of his own strange experiences, which help him to put into a common context the predictions of others, such as Jeane Dixon, Eileen Garrett, Douglas Johnson, Edgar Cayce and Cheiro. He traces critically the most popular themes of prophecy - the rising of Atlantis, earthquakes in California, the cataclysm of Armaged-don.
Alan Vaughan started his research into prophecy with a grant from the Parapsychology Foundation in New York to study mediums. He developed his ESP abilities at the College of Psychic Studies in London. He is co-editor of Psychic magazine, co-author of Dream Telepathy and Psychics and teaches psychic development at Sonoma State College in California.
