Satan in the Suburbs and other stories, Bertrand Russell, Penguin Books

Not very frequently does the author of such books as The History of Western Philosophy or An Introduction to Mathematical Philosophy sit down at the age of eighty to try his hand at short stories. As Bertrand Russell himself says: 'I do not think that the reader's surprise... can be greater than my own. For some reason entirely unknown to me I suddenly wished to write the stories in this volume, although I had never before thought of doing such a thing.' Five unusual stories resulted from this brave experiment.

'Lord Russell's style could not be more happy for its purpose... The author's intention is simple entertainment and in this he succeeds admirably' - Angus Wilson in the Observer
