Talks with a Devil by P.D. Ouspensky
Talks with a Devil was written at around the same time as A New Model of the Universe (Arkana, 1984), during the time that Ouspensky was searching and before he met Gurdjieff. It comprises two stories - The Inventor and The Benevolent Devil - which deal with two issues that concerned Ouspensky deeply. The first is that of conscious evil and the second the price one pays for 'good' behaviour. Both tales follow the Slavic tradition of demons and devils, and are introduced by J.G. Bennett, who places them in the context of Ouspensky's life and philosophy, and explores their connection with Slavic folklore.
