The last Barrier, a Sufi Journey, by Reshad Feild | 1st UK Edition 1976

Here is a rare journal of one man's struggle towards true freedom. An exciting story, it carries the stamp of undeniable authenticity. Reshad Feild chose the Sufi way of enlightenment, but the Last Barrier in essence is the universal search for self-discovery.

When Reshad first encountered Hamid in a dusty London antique shop, he little expected the meeting to result in an odyssey half-way round the world and to the very depths of his being. Yet this is precisely what happened. As Hamid was frequently later to say: "Nothing happens by chance"

Hamid leads Reshad to Turkey where he administers a series of difficult tasks destined to transform Reshad's life. The teacher's methods are extraordinary, and remind us of Castaneda's Don Juan, cajoling, praising, prodding, scolding, laughing, praying - forcing Reshad to shed the deadening preconceptions of his past, to break the shackles of the rationalising mind, and to perceive the reality lying beneath the surface.

Outwardly The Last Barrier is about a journey with the dervishes in the Middle East, and yet you can travel the same journey without buying a ticket to Sidé. The concepts and judgements of who and what we are, who and what we expect others to be, and what we expect from the environment are the only things that divide us.
