In the New Testamentthe Greek word translated as 'sin' derives from the idea of aiming an arrow at a mark and missing it. Man misses what he is meant to do and can become. Christ brought a new law, a new mark at which to aim: love one another. This entails conscious love - and not that self-conscious emotional love which changes so easily into its opposite.
