The Mirrorstone by Michael Palin, Alan Lee and Richard Seymour
The first time Paul saw it was at the swimming baths. The face staring back at him from the mirror wasn't his own. Then, at home, even stranger things began to happen and so began an enthralling looking-glass adventure of time, space and imagination. From bathroom mirror to the depths of the sea, Michael Palin's compelling story of a boy's quest is superbly complemented by Alan Lee's rich, atmospheric paintings. And in seven of the illustrations glows the eerie magic of specially created holograms.
Conceived by award-winning designer Richard Seymour, The Mirrorstone is a book like none you have ever seen.
Michael Palin gained a degree in history from Oxford University before going into television and becoming a founder member of the Monty Python team. He has written (and performed in) numerous award-winning films and television series including Ripping Yarns, Time Bandits and A Private Function. His books include Small Harry and the Toothache Pills and Limericks.
Alan Lee studied graphic design at Ealing School of Art. Since 1969 he has worked as a freelance illustrator. His books include 'Faeries', 'The Mabinogion' and 'Castles'. He is best known for his artwork inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novels, and for his work on the concept design of Peter Jackson's film adaptations of Tolkien, 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' film series.
Richard Seymour graduated from the Royal College of Art in 1977 and after four years as a creative director in advertising he left to set up a product design company. He has received awards for his book and record cover designs, and for his advertising work.
